Oh these babies caused me so much grief. I had made an earlier pair with the full intention of using embossed and die cut leather pieces, and maybe thin metal to decorate them, using rivets. They were cut, the eyelets set, the other leather pieces cut, embossed and so very pretty looking. But when it came time to rivet them, I ended up with lots of used rivets, lots of holey leather, and none of the pieces sticking together properly. I would have been better off just using glue. Oh the heartache, the disappointment, the wasted materials and hours!!!!! Woe woe woe!
Luckily I had made a template to make the original pair of gauntlets and have lots of black leather, so I made a second pair. Not as perfect as the first pair were (woe!), but still not too bad. I used metal eyelets for the corset style ties, which helped to vent my frustration. Nothing like beating on metal with a hammer for that!
They are designed to be forearm gauntlets, and are much more plain now, but I used the scarlet ribbon as a contrast. Maybe the recipient can be more successful decorating them. I may try again in the future. I may stop by the Tandy outlet to look up more appropriate rivets for leather, as what I was using before was designed for metal jewelry making.
